Being mindful of His Majesty’s noble vision and aspiration to make the country economically vibrant, socially harmonious an happy, and to enhance the security and welfare of the country with the involvement of civil society organizations, the society came into being after an audience of eighteen retired civil servants and arm force personnel with His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on January 7th 2011 and was officially launched coinciding with the 31st birth anniversary of His Majesty on February 21st' 2011. His Majesty commanded to a group that while democratically elected government is in place and going well, social problems remain a serious concern for the Bhutan. It was His Majesty’s vision that retired government servants still has the potential to keep themselves productively engaged and in the process contribute to their communities. |

The vast experiences and knowledge should be put into productive uses and enhance the relevance and partnership capabilities of senior citizens in the country’s overall efforts to promote wellbeing of its people. Consequently, the group of eighteen retired senior citizens founded the “Royal Society for Senior Citizens” (RSSC) and registered with the Civil Society Organization. | ||||

The logo that is representative of Society’s union of compassionate activities and boundless wisdom of senior citizens is a borrowed concept from one of the eight lucky sings known as “Endless Knot”. As you can see the composition of the figure, it is a closed right-angled geometric composition intertwined, overlapping without beginning or an end, symbolizing the Buddha’s endless wisdom and compassion. Similarly, the activities of the Society are dedicated for the well-being of the senior citizens in different capacities with justice. | ||||
